I don’t remember the first time Lauren and I “met.” Or even how we met. Who we met through. In the vague world of Twitter, it can be hard to pin down the moment when you first run into another person. We didn’t know if it was Ally Spotts or Lauren Dubinsky who did the introducing via blogs/twitter/some other social media form.

But we met.

Today.

Outside the Alamo.

And even though we’ve been Twitter buddies for a few months, it was like meeting up with an old friend. Once we started talking, we just couldn’t stop. It was uncanny the way that we have been dealing with parallel issues in our lives.

As we walked down the Riverwalk, past all the restaurants and down to the hidden grassy banks past the dam, stories kept coming out. Stories of sin, forgiveness, and the struggle to find the balance between stupidity and grace. How to know when offering grace is casting pearls before swine and when it is acting like Jesus. If you know the answer to that, please let me know.

At the end of the night, we stood on the side of the road and talked. And talked. And talked some more.

This friendship that had “just happened” over Twitter took root.

If it weren’t for Twitter, Lauren and I wouldn’t have met. She and I live a few thousand miles away from each other. I don’t think we have any mutual friends in common. Besides the ones we’ve met online. Now we both know half a dozen other beautiful, interesting, complex 20something bloggers who love Jesus, words, and life.

So I’m curious – Who have you met via social media that you wouldn’t have met otherwise? Has it overall been a positive or negative experience?
